Job Posting: Community Health Outreach Worker at DHHS-Healthy Communities -Nutrition Education

DHHS is currently recruiting for an extra help Community Health Outreach Worker (CHOW) in the Healthy Communities Nutrition Education program. This is a temporary job ending September 30, 2017. Primary activities will be providing nutrition outreach and education to the Spanish speaking community by tabling at events, providing food tastings and demos, and assisting with the planning and implementation of a Spanish language health fair.

Necessary skills include:

  • Food prep, lifting, safe food handling, talk about healthy foods in various locations, able to interact well with all types of people, act independently with good judgement.
  • Ability to communicate with people who are at risk from homelessness or poverty, and to people of many different cultures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with community partners.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Event planning and organizing: including constant communication with planning committee members; friendly delegation of assignments; oversight of tasks to ensure that the planning timeline is progressing on schedule.

Qualifications for a CHOW I

Community Health Outreach Worker I: Some college level coursework in community health, nursing, child development or a related field and one year experience providing direct health education, outreach, early childhood education or case management services to client groups typically served by human services agencies.

Must possess a valid California driver’s license

Pay range 334 $15.96 step 1A.

Miembros de la junta directiva de LatinoNet y Paso a Paso, un programa del Departamento de Beneficios Comunitarios del Hospital St Joseph, participaron recientemente en el Humboldt Color Run de 2016 con el objetivo de promover hábitos saludables en la comunidad latina.
